The 1st time we went to the Hungry Fisherman was with my father-in-law. As we approached the restaurant he stopped us all in our tracks, pointed up at the front of the restaurant and said "I made that". Mounted above the entrance to the restaurant was a Tiller and Rudder off of a boat. Turns out the Tiller and Rudder were off of his old boat named SAM he had in Mobile. He had to replace the Tiller and Rudder on SAM and as was his way - he hand made the replacement Tiller / Rudder in his shop about 15 years before seeing it mounted on the front of the restaurant. The Manager confirmed it had come from a boat savage yard down around Mobile. Not sure where it is now but, there's a pretty good shot it's somewhere - he made things to last!Eking34AUhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04736537061886079605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7350871202648064022.post-21159930067586258192020-06-23T13:06:15.531-07:002020-06-23T13:06:15.531-07:00wow. that was one of the 1st places my 1st husban...wow. that was one of the 1st places my 1st husband and i went to eat, when we moved to bham. sure wish i'd seen the doobies that night.anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08727502481547969444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7350871202648064022.post-43497648832580731372019-09-27T13:12:34.568-07:002019-09-27T13:12:34.568-07:00Wow. Daddy has passed away, so seeing the pic of the old billboard really makes my stomach sink. I wish I could be there just one more time with daddy. My first time there was 40 years ago today, November 11, 1977. I went to the Doobie Brothers concert that night. There's an office complex now where the restaurant and the man-made fish pond they had used to be. It was a cool place and I had loads of fun working there when I was 16-17. :)Withttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08784680152543651125noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7350871202648064022.post-54303308939249962562011-09-06T18:14:50.055-07:002011-09-06T18:14:50.055-07:00I loved that place!
